SKYLINE PTSA EMAIL BLAST #2

Hello, Skyline PTSA Members:

Feel free to reply to this email with your questions and concerns. We'll try to get you quick answers or connect you with the right person.

MEMBERSHIP CLIMBS…66 TO GO

Thanks to an overwhelming response from parents and staff, our membership now sits at 1,195, within 66 members of achieving 100%. If you know of someone who hasn’t joined, forward this email to them and urge them to join now!

WE’VE GOT A LITTLE FARTHER TO GO IN PASS-THE-HAT

While we’re getting close in membership, we’re still only at about 80% of our pass-the-hat goal. Remember, this is the only fundraiser we do, and we count on it to fund all the grants and programs we do throughout the year to benefit all the students at Skyline. This includes the $10,000 we give out in Spartan Grants to staff, the $8,500 grant we’re giving to Skyline this year to pay for science consumables in all lab sciences, and the $5,500 we spend to support PTSA programs at PCFC, to name but a few. In view of our sad little tale, if you’d like to add to the pass-the-hat contribution you’ve already made or make your first contribution, all of our students and staff would be grateful.

REMINDER ABOUT THIS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD – BIG NIGHT

This Tuesday evening beginning at 7 pm we’ll have a short PTSA General Membership meeting in rooms 102-103. Please join us, so we can approve our budget and goals for the year. Also, Principal Lisa Hechtman will be there to briefly recap the start of school and take some questions. Directly following our meeting, the Counseling Center will be presenting two seminars to help you and your student plan ahead for life after Skyline. One seminar is called, “Making the Most of the National College Fair.” The National College Fair is a great place to meet college representatives face-to-face. Rather than walk away from college tables empty handed or with nothing more than printed literature, find out at this seminar what questions you should ask to make the most of the experience.

The second seminar, “IB Student Panel: Life in the IB Program, Is It For You?” will feature a panel of IB students to talk about their experience in the IB program, how they decided whether to pursue the full diploma or to take certificate exams, how they balance the course load and their extracurricular activities, etc. These two seminars will be offered twice so that you can attend both.  It all starts at 7 pm in rooms 102-103.

SIGN UP NOW FOR PRACTICE SAT/ACT TESTS

SCHOLARSHIPS ARE NOT JUST FOR 4.0’S

The Career Center offers seminars throughout the year to help get students ready for life after Skyline. October 14th there will be a seminar in the theater beginning at 7pm called “Acing the College Application.” It’s targeted to seniors and their parents, but students and parents at all grade levels are welcome.

PTSA LEGISLATIVE ISSUES - WEIGH IN ON WHAT MATTERS MOST TO YOU

The State PTA’s annual legislative assembly is the weekend of October 4th. This is where representatives from PTAs around the state vote to choose the top 5 issues that will be actively advocated for by the State PTA’s lobbyists in the upcoming legislative session. You can weigh in on what issues you think should receive priority attention. Respond to this survey by clicking on this link: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/?p=WEB2289YMDTM83.

WANT TO JOIN US FOR LUNCH?

We’re putting together tables of Skyline parents to join us and Principal Lisa Hechtman at the Issaquah Schools Foundation’s Nourish Every Mind lunch on October 16th. Would you like to join us? There’s a fabulous silent auction preceding the lunch, and during the lunch you’ll hear about the many ways the Foundation directly supports all of our kids in the Issaquah School District. The suggested donation to attend is $150. If you’d like to join us, please contact me, Leigh Stokes, at leigh.stokes@issaquah.wednet.edu.

ISSAQUAH FOOD BANK NEEDS PRE-HOLIDAY CONTRIBUTIONS

We’ve heard that the Issaquah Food Bank is running very low on supplies to help feed the less fortunate in our community. No one usually thinks of food shortages this time of year, but their need is desperate. If you can, please make a pre-holiday contribution to the food bank by dropping of non-perishable items. Thanks.
