MEMBERSHIP APPROVED GOALS, BUDGET
FOR 2008-2009
At our first General Membership
meeting September 23rd, PTSA members approved our budget, standing
rules, and goals for this year. Our theme: Building Together.
WE’RE COLLECTING COMMUNITY SERVICE
HOURS THIS THURSDAY
This Thursday, October 2, we’ll have
a table during both lunches to record students’ community service hours for the
first time this year. Dawn Sanders, Volunteer Coordinator for Sammamish, and a
representative from Rotary, will also be available to let students know about
community service opportunities in Sammamish. Tell your students! Want other
ideas for community service hours? Check out the Career Center’s web page.
SOPHOMORE PARENTS – WANT A GLIMPSE
OF WHAT’S IN STORE THIS YEAR?
PTSA is sponsoring a “What It’s Like
To Be A…Sophomore” panel discussion Monday evening, October 13th in
Room 628, from 7 – 8:30, featuring parents and students who’ve just lived
through it to tell all and answer questions. All current sophomores and you,
their parents, are welcome.
If you’re the parent of a junior and
would like to participate on the panel, please contact Debbie Dodd.
COLLEGE READINESS
Registration
for the first mock ACT on Saturday, October 11th closes October
4th. Two more mock SAT and one more mock ACT will be offered later
this year. Questions? Contact SHS PTSA’s College Readiness Chair, Molly Bellehumeur.
Here’s a link you should check out for more practice ACT
tests.
On October 14th, the Career Center will offer a seminar for parents and students
in the theater beginning at 7pm called “Scholarships Are Not Just For 4.0’s.”
Want an easy way to find out which colleges
are coming to Skyline for student information sessions? Log on to the Career
Center’s calendar of college visits. Check it often for updates.
Then remind your kids to sign up for the ones they’re interested in.
JOIN US FOR LUNCH
There’s still space available at the
October 16th Issaquah Schools Foundation Nourish Every Mind
Luncheon. If you’re interested in joining us at a table, contact Leigh Stokes. If you want to skip
the lunch and donate to the foundation directly, click here.
BELLEVUE STRIKE IS A REMINDER TO US
ALL
The Bellevue teachers’ strike
provides a useful reminder to all of us about the education funding crisis
we’re in. Read the first in a series of short articles by Kelly Munn, our PTSA’s Legislative
Chair, which will help bring you up to speed on the state of education funding
in Washington.
HOMECOMING CHAPERONES NEEDED
ASB is in desperate need of
chaperones for the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 25th from 8
– 11 at Skyline. If you’re interested, contact Julie Speyer at Skyline.
