Extended Essay

 

In order to earn the IB Diploma, students are required to write an Extended Essay, a 4,000-word independent research paper on a topic of the student’s choice. For more information, click the following links:

Due Dates:

  1. Students declare a Subject, choose a Topic, identify a supervisor, and prepare a research proposal by: June 10, 2011.

  2. Students work on and write the Extended Essay between June and September 2011. For all essays that require the collection of experimental data, all data must be collected by September 2011.

  3.  Students will submit a working draft of the EE on October 10, 2011. This draft should be a minimum of 2000 words and should include proper referencing. A list of students who have completed the draft will be given to the counselors so that they can be identified as Diploma Candidates on college applications.

  4. A final meeting and interview with the EE supervisor to review and discuss the final draft: first week of January 2012.

  5. Students attend Extended Essay Night, during which each student is paired with a community member who provides one-on-one feedback about their essay - date TBD

  6. Final due date of EE: first week of February 2012.
