Why take the IB test/what do the scores mean?
The May IB test gives a student a unique opportunity to experience
a complex, multipart exam. It provides practice for the important
exams given in university, where end of term exams can make up half
of the total grade. A student’s IB score is a combination of the
internal assessments done in class and the May exam. Assessments
and exam are sent for evaluation by IB teachers worldwide. In a
world that is growing increasingly smaller, this composite score
gives students and Skyline valuable feedback about how we are doing
compared with students around the globe. The IB organization sends
a transcript of students’ scores to their colleges. Depending on
the policy of the school, the score may be the basis of advanced
placement or credit. Many schools give credit/placement for scores
of 4 or 5 and above. The highest score possible is 7. A low IB score
has no impact on student placement or acceptance.

College Letters:
Skyline IB Coordinator Marion Makin will putting together written
confirmations of 2009/10 IB test registration that can accompany
college applications. She writes these as soon as IB test registration
is finished so letters should be distributed to students (at school)
by end of November. If students need these letters any earlier,
please give Ms. Makin at least two weeks’ notice.
